I heart London.

24th July 2015.

Biblical rain.  Remember – JULY and tubes that you wouldn’t legally carry cattle in.

All in all a damp squib of a day in London, but nonetheless, I enjoy shooting in melancholic weather conditions.  People tend to keep their heads down and rush around without stopping to consider their peripheral surroundings.

I quite like shoot long(ish) exposures whilst panning when the weather is like this.  With a decent background and the motion of the rain the image can seem a little more dramatic.

All of these images were shot on my Fuji X100T with the Wide Angle Conversion lens attached.  The WCL is the little brother to the Tele Converter and I can’t remember the last time I removed the WCL from my X100T (both for wedding and street photography).

As ever, please feel free to share or comment.

P.S – I love you really London

Hi Kevin. Brilliant post – You have caught the London atmosphere perfectly – I am a London commuter. I also soot the fuji x100T – are you still editing jpegs directly – and adding a saturation boost to classic chrome or velvia, then adding contrast in post? I think the x100T jpegs offer a lot more post editing latitude compared to the other x cameras. Follow your websites regularly – and love your new f16 click site. Very best.

  • Hi Mark – thanks & yes, still shooting JPEGS. Mostly Classic Chrome for colour and B&W+R for monochrome.

    Hi Keven
Great images as usual, i use the X100t as my always with camera must start and use it in the rain,,is it just the motion of the rain that make the back ground blur ? cant wait for the Xpro2
    Rob

    • Hi Rob – the motion is partly the rain but also its the very slow shutter speed that I’m using (along with panning) that causes the effect.

Hi Kevin. I love the moody light caused by the rain. Very well done. What precausions do you take when using your cameras in the rain?
    Niels Kristian

    • Hi Niels,

The X-T1 is weather sealed but these were all shot on the X100T which isn’t weather sealed. However, I shot through the rain all the time. I’ll wipe the lens occasionally but it needs to be a very heavy deluge for me to consider not shooting.
